Your Marriage - Information That Maybe Useful

How to make the day relaxing and enjoyable for all. The following are legal and social aspects to be considered.

Before the Ceremony
You will need to get the form 'Notice of Intended Marriage' form your celebrant or any Court house. It must be completed by a least one party and must be witnessed and with your celebrant one day before the ceremony, the other person must complete the notice before the ceremony takes place. 

The Declaration
This a legal document required of both parties declaring that there is not legal impediment to the marriage.    

Documents Which are Necessary
The celebrant must have proof of date of birth, a passport is acceptable if party is not an Australian citizen.  Where applicable, proof of 'Decree Absolute' or 'Death Certificate' of a spouse must be produced. 

Choice of Ceremony
The Choice of ceremony is yours, the law requires the you make certain promises to each other. The vows you make and what you are promising each other forms the heart of you Ceremony. The law does not require a women to change her name, neither does it require the wearing of a ring - this is a personal choice. 

Witnesses
You must provide two over the age of 18.  

The Ceremony
Your celebrant will need to know; if your function will be formal or informal, your choice of music, if you will have poetry readings, symbolism or any other information you consider relevant.
